An opportunity – become an instructor in personal and professional development

Effectiveness Training is recognised as being at the forefront for effective communication skills in interpersonal and organisational change.

Instructor Training Workshops are complete workshops designed to prepare you to facilitate Effectiveness Training programmes within your community or organisation. An Instructor Training Workshop is based on a learning-by-doing model. It is highly interactive and combines instruction in the core content and skills with exercises providing practice in dealing with group dynamics and the process of teaching and facilitating Effectiveness Training courses.

Choose one or more of the following Effectiveness Training Programmes and learn how to become an instructor in the skills and techniques developed by Dr. Thomas Gordon (1999 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee):

  • Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.)
  • Be Your Best (B.Y.B.) – Effectiveness Training for personal and professional development
  • Teacher Effectiveness Training (T.E.T.)
  • Youth Effectiveness Training (Y.E.T.)
  • Leader Effectiveness Training (L.E.T.)

By becoming an authorised instructor you will be able to help parents, teachers, youth or adults to use proven skills and processes for handling personal and interpersonal aspects of communication, with increased surety, satisfaction and ease.

When you teach an Effectiveness Training course you not only join a passionate group of instructors in Australia, you also join an international network of authorised instructors throughout the world.

Both theoretical knowledge and practical skills are taught, leading to a high level of competence in:

  • Counselling skills in interviewing
  • Conducting effective meetings and family conferences
  • Understanding problem ownership
  • Resolving conflicts with integrity
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Mediation – third party facilitation
  • Dealing with values collisions
  • Communication processes for interpersonal relationships
  • Providing constructive and appropriate feedback
  • Human relations for classroom, home, and workplace
  • Contracting and goal-setting
  • Assertive interactions
  • Effective listening skills
  • Processes for time management
  • Anger management.

Here’s what ITW participants have to say!

Testimonial 1:

“Undertaking Dr Gordon’s Parent Effectiveness Training was one of the best training courses I have taken to date. As an Early Childhood Educator (Montessori) my personal and professional belief is children thrive best in environments that support developmentally appropriate learning experiences. The use of these effective communication skills by those who care for our youngest in society marry beautifully, to support truly wholesome child/adult relationships.”

Anne Curtis – teacher, and parent of four

Testimonial 2:

I met my instructor for the first time at her Parent Effectiveness Training ITW. That was one of the happiest weeks of my life. I got to immerse myself in the Gordon P.E.T. model and under the tutelage of someone with over 30 years of experience!  I watched as she compassionately and clearly corrected us and deepened our understanding. She cracked jokes, shared personal stories, assertively managed time and participants’ issues and was about as genuine as it gets. That course jumpstarted my P.E.T. skills in a major way and my family became a lot more peaceful.”

Catherine Banson – P.E.T. Instructor, lawyer, social worker, and parent of three teens.

Testimonial 3:

“Together with my husband, I first undertook Parent Effectiveness Training with the view to improving my own parenting. From the very first session our family dynamics became calmer and we continued to gain confidence as we learned the skills of effective communication, assertiveness and conflict resolution. The improvement in our family was so significant that by the end of the course I decided to embark upon training to become a P.E.T. Instructor. Throughout P.E.T. the content came to life with real stories and practice, as well as continually modelling the Effectiveness Training Skills. Thank you!”

Melissa Strader – P.E.T., B.Y.B. and L.E.T. Instructor, Early Childhood and Primary school teacher, Art Therapist and parent of two.

Testimonial 4:

“As an Assistant Principal Wellbeing, and school counsellor (K-12), the T.E.T. skills are so valuable in connecting with young people and colleagues. They have helped to build a place of safety and positive stronger relationships which is so important in helping everyone to thrive.”

Chantelle Manoe – Assistant Principal Wellbeing K-12 school, teacher, counsellor, parent.
